Counselling

Counselling is a form of talking therapy which gives you the safe space to talk to someone without judgement. I can help you make sense of things and understand yourself a little better, resolve complicated feelings, or find ways to live with them. My support will aid you to acknowledge and recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think or act and find ways to change them, should you choose to.

Counselling therapy can sometimes be considered as a last resort. This can mean it is not utilised until your situation is so bad you can no longer manage on your own. It is sometime easier to presume therapy is not for you but as the old saying goes don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. Therapy is useful at any point in your life, whatever your background. Seeking support from a therapist when you are not at crisis point can be beneficial. If you start counselling sooner rather than later, it can help you to reflect on what is going on and could help you keep things from getting any worse.

Supervision

I am a qualified supervisor and at present am supervising for a community-based organisation. However, I have recently set up my own private practice where I will be working from my purpose-built office in Reddish situated between Stockport and Manchester.

Supervision exists for two reasons:

  • To protect clients
  • To improve the ability of counsellors to support their clients

All counsellors and psychotherapists regardless of experience need supervision. As well as a requirement, it is also seen by many as an ethical imperative.

Supervision protects clients by involving an impartial third party (the supervisor), in the therapeutic relationship between a counsellor and client. Helping to reduce the risk of any misunderstanding and helping counsellors to reflect on their own feelings, thoughts and behaviours and their approach with the client.

I found counselling very effective.

One of the best things I have ever done, helped me to cope with life’s pressures.

It has empowered me to take control of my life and I feel I have come full circle from being suicidal to knowing what I want and being much happier.

I felt trust which enable me to share my worst experiences with you.

felt comfortable to share feelings, thoughts and emotions.

It was good to talk and actually be heard.

Having someone I can talk to about my personal problems has been very helpful for my mental health.

I feel that Miss has helped me a lot with my emotions and family relationships and made me feel less anxious.

I am not the easiest person to be around, but I found it easy to communicate how I was feeling with you.

I think it has been helpful because I have autism and Miss Thompson has helped me find my voice.
